Saturday (2/19) we took the pop-up trailer for a short test run and did a little family camping trip out in Leeds, just 15 miles from home. We came back Sunday morning in time to shower, get dressed, and go to church. It was nice just to get out and be in nature. It's been awhile. We took Chancho and Chia and you would have thought they died and had gone to doggie heaven. They LOVED it! They were scaling rocks and climbing up things I didn't know were possible to climb. They shocked me! They're just little dogs but they had no fear and acted like this was where they belonged. They were in their element. Maybe they just have cabin fever living indoors, although the spoiled prissy-pants-pups love their days sleeping in our king sized bed and staying in a heated or air conditioned home.

Porter maxin' and relaxin' and diggin' the trailer.

The boys--and furry ones--exploring the area.

Aaron rappelled in 3 big bounds. So fun! At the bottom, before he got off the rope, he grabbed Porter who got to swing back and forth with Daddy. Best toddler entertainment.

Porter got to finish a rappel with Aaron too. He of course loved every mili-second of it.

About to make my descent into our campsite. Love the views from up high and going down the edge of a mountain...or just a really big rock I guess.

I have not been rappelling in f-o-r-e-v-e-r and it's one of my favorite things to do! If I remember correctly the last time I rappelled I was 6 months pregnant with Porter and we were camping up in Duck Creek. This time only 4 months pregnant. Best and safest way to take a baby off a cliff--in utero. ;)

Our good friends the Hirschi's came up to spend the evening with us. It was great having company and enjoying the beautiful landscape with friends who appreciate and love the outdoors.

Porter and his buddy found a little cave in the rock to play in and get extra dirty.

It got pretty windy for a bit which made it quite chilly but thankfully it later stopped and made the weather nicer.

Porter had not had a nap that day so Aaron let him have some relax time while he made dinner. Porter and Dax watched Diego on the ipad. Kids are so spoiled these days. Porter would have fallen asleep watching his show but was too excited having a friend to play with.

Aaron made a delicious meal! Chicken chunks in a soupy sauce over egg noodles. Some how food tastes so much better when you're out camping.

The boys! Aaron, Porter, the Hirschi's nephew, Jed, and Dax. Manuela, the baby (Rhyse) and I were sitting on the couch on the other side.

After dinner we made dessert...s'mores!!! Porter enjoyed it...obviously. Look at that joyful expression on his face: hanging with his main man (Dad), out in nature, getting dirty, and eating sweets?! It's a little guy's dream come true!

A few times we locked the dogs in the trailer when we saw other campers/hikers with a big dog coming our way. Chancho and Chia thought it was torture being inside.

Eating my s'more. Always a camping treat. Just before bed we also had hot chocolate.

Aaron and Porter at bed time. Porter got to watch a show just before bed time. That night and next morning we got rained on but you would never know staying so dry! We've done plenty of camping in tents in our day, but having a tot and dogs with us, a trailer was so nice and easy. Made packing up and setting up and breaking down camp a breeze! Why didn't we do this years ago? This was only the first of many many many family camping trips. It was a great time and we can't wait to get out again!

so fun!! I would love to get a camping trailer so we can go camping more often. Doing it in a tent with little ones is just not my thing :)
