• I asked Porter where he had been when I didn't see him pick up toys I asked him to & he said, "I go to time out." I asked why. "I be naughty." 7/24
• "Daddy wear du-dun-du-duns?" (translation: Does Daddy wear underwear?) 7/25
• Porter wasn't listened to me while we were all in the garage so I told him he had to go inside, physically placed him in the laundry room & had to push him out of the way to shut the door. He cried & Aaron got him & brought him out. Porter pointed a finger at me & reprimanded me 3x's saying, "Don't push me Mommy!" I apologized as did he for not listening. Such a funny boy! 7/26
• Rainy day I was rolling car windows up & down so Porter ended up thinking it was a game & asking for up & down...when I stopped responding he said, "Abajo!" That's Spanish for down...then when I prompted him he said, "Arriba!" for up....my little Spanish speaker! 7/26
  
• Opened Porter's door after what was supposed to be nap time (he never fell asleep; apparently the short cat nap in the car on the way home from Nana's house was enough) to see him with white stuff all over--it was Neosporin cream. He proudly exclaimed, "I put medicine on it!" 7/27
• Aaron dropped Porter off at his mom's house when I had 3 doc appts & as he went to leave Porter pointed his finger at him & said, "You be careful Daddy." 7/27

• Twice in one day when I asked Porter to do something & threatened him with time-out if he didn't listen, he went & put himself in time out instead of doing what I asked! One of those times I went to look at him & he turns around, smiles, & says "All done!" 8/4
• Aaron had been gone for a week & his first night home Porter could not leave his side & wouldn't go to bed so Aaron let him sleep with us in our bed; he was so excited he couldn't stop moving or talking; he kept 'whispering' (it's a loud but CUTE whisper voice), "We be quiet! Shhhh. Okay, I close my eyes. Pirates! Hey...we be quiet!" 8/5
  
• "Daddy took my car away." Porter & I got ready to attend a baptism for a girl in our ward but we went out to the garage to discover Aaron had taken the car that morning 8/6
• Aaron put Porter to bed & Porter yelled from under the door for a bit & then started yelling, "I need my Daddy!" 8/6
• "I gotta cweam up mess." ...Porter grabbed kitchen towels & wanted to clean up a mess which ended up being a pee accident on the kitchen floor; I saved my towels & got paper towels 8/9

• Porter & I were looking at the blog post about the zoo trip & Porter saw the picture of me holding the kangaroo & said, "Mommy you hold a kangaroo--that a good boy" (as he pats my chin), "Porter hold tail." ....LOVE him! Kid cracks me up! 8/9

• "Run spin"--Porter starts to run & Aaron lifts him off the ground spinning around
  
• "Smash me!"--Aaron gets two pillows & chases him, smashing him w/ the pillows; Porter will ask for him to do it again & again by saying, "Smash me Daddy! Smash me!"
  
• "Airplane arms"--Porter lays face down on the floor w/ 3 limbs spread out; Aaron picks him up by one arms & one leg & spins him around
• Singing at bed time after reading stories--song line up by Porter request: "I Am a Child of God", various superhero made-up songs to same tune, 'scripture song' which is "Book of Mormon Stories"
• "Hungry for Tummy"--that's what Aaron says to Porter who squeals & laughs & giggles & then his tummy gets eaten
  

Recent tidbits: I think Porter's "real cry" is adorable & it makes me laugh, but I've decided I hate his fake cry...it's not cute & it's so forced; starting to ask "Why" several times in a row...thankfully doesn't last long...hope it's not a new phase; a recent thing is him going in a room & locking the door...he has been getting in big trouble for that, unless it's to go potty

Little sweet pea fell asleep watching comic book cartoons. I don't like when Aaron let's him watch those and then leaves. It was nap time! I couldn't turn it off right away but of course little guy was tuckered and didn't want to nap when I put him in his bed, but he did.
My little patriotic boy wanted to dress up like an Army man and wanted his flag too. So cute!
For a few days Porter was really excited about popcorn. One day he brings me one of the bowls we typically use for that reason, holds it up to me and asks for popcorn. Cutie! (7/5)

Cutest little time-out kid ever! He only has a time-out a few times a week. He is a very good boy. Most of the time he listens; it's not too often we have to follow through with the punishment/consequence of not listening. (7/10)
A couple nights recently Porter has woken up in the middle of the night for who knows what reason and Aaron just brings him into bed with us because it's quicker. (Men...always just do with what's the easiest...*roll eyes*) When I woke up I looked over and didn't see Porter. He had flopped over and the comforter blocked my vision from this cutie pie.

All ready to go to church with his church bag! Every Sunday he is just beside himself with excitement to go to church. He loves it! It's so cute and makes me so happy. He LOVES going to nursery class especially.
(7/17)We have not been to the library as much as I would've liked to this summer due to the pregnancy, but we've been a few times. We went one day to check things out and Porter played with the puzzles. (7/21) Had my camera out and Porter said he wanted to see "Porter ahhh", so I took a picture of him saying "Ahhh" and showed it to him. (8/9) He is so funny! That same day he brought two kitchen towels to me and wanted us to put them on our shoulders "like Daddy" (that's something Aaron does any time he cooks or cleans in the kitchen). I LOOOOOVE my little boy!!!!

Tuacahn Shows 2011

One of my favorite things of the summer: Tuacahn shows!!! I got tickets few months ago online for half price for both Broadway shows--Grease and Disney's The Little Mermaid.
Thursday July 28th Aaron and I went to Grease and it was a great show! I was a little disappointed because I didn't feel it followed the movie very well in some ways. [Sandy wasn't Danny's date at the dance and wasn't even there, the Sandra Dee song was performed at a beach and not the girls slumber party, they sang the closing song "We Go Together" in the middle instead of just at the end, they added a beach party scene that's not in the movie, Sandy didn't attend the drag race and sing the Sandra Dee song there, the character Cha-cha was portrayed differently, no scene at the burger place, Frenchie's "Beauty School Drop Out" took place at the drive-in instead of the burger joint, they changed some of the words to "Summer Nights", etc.] Despite all that it was a fun show and they were wonderful performers. I don't think anyone can be John Travolta, but Danny and Sandy both did a great job. The show was high energy, had colorful costumes, and an overall wonderful show.
During the show I kept feeling little lower pains; not sure if those were contractions of any kind or just some normal pregnancy things. If they were contraction they were tiny so maybe they were Braxton Hicks? Have heard of those but have never experienced them unless that's what I felt that week.Monday August 8th Aaron and I went to see The Little Mermaid. We started our date by eating dinner at Panda Express. I had wanted to make dinner but I got so little sleep the previous night (due to a stupid cold with a sore throat and stuffy nose) that I was just too tired. I haven't eaten there for a long time and I love that place. Orange chicken...yum! Aaron preferred to wait until October to go see both shows but I said no way Jose. I'm not planning on anything after baby is born. You just can't plan on much, especially something like these shows where they are 3 hours plus travel time. He doesn't like sitting out in the heat, but thankfully I thought the weather was fine both shows; they're late enough anyway (both shows start at 8:45-9pm and end at 11 and 11:30pm). That would be a long time to leave a newborn and it would be hard to take one. To sum it up in a nutshell, the show was AMAZING!!!!!!!! I've heard nothing but great things and it truly lived up to all the hype. They did a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful job! They started out flooding the stage (which was beautiful to see the waterfall cascade down over the natural background) and brought the ship in with Prince Eric and his crew. The water curtain I'd heard about was fantastic! Also helped produce a cool breeze here and there. The actors were wonderful; I couldn't imagine Ariel being more perfect. The singing was great, the acting superb, the costumes were FABULOUS, and scenery SPECTACULAR...it was all just PERFECT! The little details were great, for example the mermaids would constantly be moving their hips thus moving their fins and giving it the illusion of being under water. Does that make sense? The acrobatics they used (flying through the air) were wonderful. In a few scenes (the chef in the kitchen getting Sebastian and during "Kiss the Girl") they used black lights and it was so so so so good. There were also "stunt doubles" for Ariel and Eric which made transitions and placement easier. The way they did Eric's near drowning and Ariel's transformation into a human was so well done. I could go on and on--obviously--but I'll just say I'm so glad we went and it was well worth it. The only real difference from the movie was Ursula never turns into Veronica to steal Prince Eric. Other than that they stayed true to the movie which I appreciate. We also had great seats; 7 rows back from the front on the right side (facing the stage). I wouldn't want to be that close for every show, but in this case it was so worth it to see the details of the stage and costumes up close.I'm pretty disappointed about the line up for 2012: The Wizard of Oz, Hairspray, and Legally Blonde the Musical. *Sticks finger down throat* I am not excited about any of those. Only one I might go see is W of O; I know it's a classic but I've never been a huge fan of the movie/story. Why can't they do "Wicked" instead? I would LOVE to see that show. I do not like the show Hairspray one little bit, and I like the movie "Legally Blonde" but I really don't know about a musical of it being any good. I'll go if I get free tickets, but that's about it. Disappointed for 2012 Tuacahn. Just being honest. How could they top Tarzan and The Little Mermaid anyway?

More Garden Spoils!

We finally starting getting tomatoes from our garden! That's one of the main things I ever wanted from it; hope I can just get enough at one time to make homemade salsa. It will be my second time ever. I LOOOVE eating tomatoes like an apple; bite straight into it...sprinkling every bite with a little salt of course. Porter has started to enjoy it too. At first he would ask for some but spit it out. Now he is actually eating them! I've never understood why tomatoes are one of those things that people either despise or love. How could you not like tomatoes??? We are also still getting some zucchini here and there. Wish we got more but I'll be grateful for the steady Herbs are doing good (basil, dill, and cilantro), and been getting some type of bean that we have not eaten yet. Also getting some squash that don't look like anything I planted; I think they are butternut squash but they don't look yellow enough. All in all I LOVE having a garden!

Porter Mall & Home Fun

After a busy day with 3 doc appointments, errands/shopping, and a library puppet show, I took Porter to the mall. Had to get my wedding ring cleaned and inspected (every 6 months for insurance purposes), so I let him play with the train table at Barnes n' Noble. Before playing with the trains he asked for candy while waiting for my ring. I told him yes if he was good. He didn't listen to me at all and even ran AWAY from me when I went after him (he almost NEVER does that), so I said no candy. I expected a fit and crying, but instead he just said "Okay" as if he understood the consequence. We walked down to the book store and I told him if he was good the rest of the time, he could have candy before we left. Well he was a very good boy after that so I gave his quarter back that he held during the ring business and he chose 'Mike n Ikes'. (7/27)

Porter said he was doing 'pull ups'...obviously he meant push ups and learned by watching his Daddy. Although I don't know if Aaron is as talented to be able to do them on the arm of the couch... (7/28)

Friend's Pirate Party

My little buccaneer! So cute! Porter's friend Lincoln Heppler had a birthday party August 5th and it had a pirate theme so the kids were invited to dress up. We borrowed the pirate costume from Porter's cousins and it was soooo cute! I had the hat in the Halloween box that I got at DI awhile ago, but I was missing a sword and patch. Thankfully one of the party favors was an eye patch so I think it made the costume complete. It was a great shindig! We had some delicious grub (HUGE burgers with all the trimmings, including bacon!), all the sides and yummies to go with a BBQ, and pirate cake.
Alicia had each kid do the "pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey" treasure map game as they walked in. I didn't think Porter thought anything of it once he was done, but when we got home he was standing by the wall asking me to turn him around. Well blow me down! Took me a minute but it finally occurred to me he was playing the game! So we both played and pretended to put the "treasure" on the "map" (invisible of course).

The kids took turns taking a whack at the pirate ship; that thing was made of cement! Took a lot to finally break it to get the booty. It was great treasure...a kid's favorite kind...candy!

Lincoln's mom and dad (Alicia and Johnny) dressed up too and they looked great! Wish I had gotten a Heppler family picture. After the sugar rush fun, Lincoln opened all his cool presents and we called it a day. It was a great party! Thanks for the invite Heppler's and happy birthday Lincoln! Porter LOOOOVED it and it was really nice for me to get out for something other than a doctor appointment. ;)

Zoo in the Desert

June 30th we went to the Roos-n-More Zoo located in Moapa, Nevada. I have been wanting to go there for the longest time and I finally made it happen! Porter was soooooooooooo excited that morning when we told him where we were going. All morning he kept yelling, "Yeah! Going to the zoo!!!" He fell asleep on the way there and woke up just as we pulled into the parking lot. First thing out of his mouth: "Oh my gosh...animals!" I don't know where he gets that; we really don't say that! It was funny. I ended up being very surprised that he wasn't as excited when we were there. He had no interest in holding or even really petting the animals. I was shocked; I thought he'd love it. He acted pretty scared.
Zebra stripes! I wanted to get a picture with Porter and the zebra but he wouldn't get close, plus there was always a mob of people around each animal which was annoying. A lot of times it all felt so unorganized and drove me a little crazy. I would want to take a picture of Porter and an animal and people would be petting the animal covering up Porter. So irritating.
Porter holding a kangaroo. Why didn't he love it or smile?! When we told him we were going to the zoo I really think he expected something like the Nashville Zoo we had just visited in May. He asked several times to ride the train. =P

One thing I would change or improve is having signs on the cages about the animals. Several times I had no idea what we were looking at; it was all very fun but Aaron and I agreed that the zoo was a wee bit ghetto. That's not to be insulting in any way, shape, or form, it's just that it was so random. I also think it would more correctly be titled "Exotic Animal Petting Zoo" instead of a "Zoo". Guess I just expected a bit more when I went.

Otters! A coming attraction at the zoo we were told will be swimming with the otters!


One of the best parts of our visit was the "monkey/otter show". It really wasn't a show, it was just the worker taking the monkey in who was chased and teased and ganged up on by the otter's. It was pretty darn funny!

Porter would finally pet the baby llama. So cute! Overall we loved our visit and were glad we went. Next time I don't think we'll make the 2 hour round trip and spend the gas just for that; it would be better to do that on the way to Vegas or something. Of course they're only opened a couple days a month so would have to time it pretty well. $10/person and 2 years old and under are free.
